February Wrap Up 2013

Hey everyone, 

So it's the end of the month already, it's been a really busy one so this might not be the most interesting Wrap up you've ever read considering I only finished 4 books.

The first book that I read was The Wedding Dress by Milly Johnson

This wasn't really a book as such but was actually a few short stories, it was a very quick read which was something important this month as I have a ton of work to do for college so this explains how little free time i've had this month. Anyway this book was a nice little companion to the Milly Johnson books that i've read in the past and even though it was short the stories were well thought out and I thoroughly enjoyed them.

The second thing I read this month was Hidden by PC and Kristen Cast.

This book was another really good one, I read this in about a week because it really captivated my attention, I love the way the plot is going and even though the series seems like a long one i'm enjoying it so far and can't wait for the next book. The only pet peeve I have is that they changed the cover so now it doesn't match the rest of my collection.

The next book I read was Pandemonuim by Lauren Oliver

I've been meaning to read this book for ages now and i've only just gotten to reading it but it was definitely a good one, I loved the plot and the way which the story left you on a cliffhanger for the next book which should be out later this year. 

And finally Their Newborn Gift by Nikki Logan

When I saw this book free on kindle I really didn't have high hopes for it at all but to be honest I really enjoyed it even to say that it might be my favourite book that I read this month, the story was so compelling and I love the love aspect of it. The characters were extremely likable and I would definitely consider reading something else by Nikki Logan because I loved the way she wrote.

Hidden by PC and Kristin Cast, I went with this because it's a nice easy quick read and i'm really enjoying it so far, probably have less than 100 pages left until it's done. This one has been a good one because often I find that every second book in a series is just a filler book in which nothing happens but this one is been really good so far

2. What have you recently finished 

Wedding Dress by Milly Johnson, it's just a little book of three short stories that I found on kindle for 99p but it was actually much better than I thought it would be.

3. What do you think you will read next

I'm not 100% sure yet but i'd really like to attempt A Dance with Dragons again...

Update on my book...

Hey everyone,

So I've just been writing a little more of my book which is currently at 7465 words, 12 pages and  6 chapters (sort of) I've written all of chapters one and two, part of three, all of four, a tiny bit of five and a lot of six. But i'm starting to think that I need to fill it out a bit more, the first few chapters could be filled out more leading up to what happens in chapter 6 then I could drag out the chapters a little more hopefully making it up to about 10 in total.

I'm still enjoying writing the story but I feel like i'm repeating myself a lot and I need to make it a little more interesting I think. 

And the chapter that i've just written might not make it onto here/mibba. I am embarrassed reading it myself and it's my own work, maybe i'll make a more family friendly one instead of this one that is more than a little bit x-rated.

Angela i'm not sure I can even let you read this chapter...I might even need your help in writing it again. After Graded Unit 2 is done I can hopefully focus on it for a while.

I am currently focusing on Hidden by PC and Kristen Cast because it's a relatively short read that i've been waiting for a long time to get to so hopefully i'll actually finish one book in February because otherwise my Wrap up will be incredibly boring for you all to read.

2. What have you recently finished 

I haven't actually finished anything recently because i've been really busy working for college.

3. What do you think you will read next

Something short probably, or relatively so anyway maybe Now Is Good or Dead Reckoning might be a good choice because I know that I can get through it really quick.

p.s. it's my Mum's birthday today :)

Top 10 Covers

My Top 10 Covers

Hey everyone, so I know it's been a while and I really wanted to catch up with you all and so I did a little researching on what to do on this blog because I don't have very many really good ideas at the minute but I found a few new and exciting things that I could put in here for you all and this is one of the first projects that I wanted to do.

As you all know i'm a sucker for a nice, well presented, beautiful cover on a book and I most certainly judge the book by it and so I decided to share with you all a few of my favourite covers of all time. 

I tried to put these in order so i'm going from my number 1 down to number 10

1. Remembrance by Michelle Madow.

Just look at that cover art. The model is amazingly beautiful and I absolutely adore the masquerade theme, it suits the whole theme of the book and I definitely only chose to read this one because of the cover and surprisingly I really enjoyed it. This is a cover that I want put on display, i'd put this picture on canvas and have it displayed in my room if I could it's just amazing. I love the way the blue light comes in from the side and how it accentuates the white of the feathers and almost gives them a lilac hue, the mask itself is so intricate and gorgeous. This cover is my ultimate favourite i've ever seen.

2. The Book of Tomorrow by Cecelia Ahern

This book again is so pretty that I paid extra for hardcover just so that I could display it. I love the way that the page looks like it is being turned and the gold detailing underneath is just beautiful. The continuation of the gold accents on top of the pinky purple background looks both elegant and inspiring, this cover just makes me want to dive into a world where this book exists. Unfortunately the book itself was a disappointment but I still adore the cover even if it is just for display purposes.

3. Wither by Lauren Destefano

This cover is another of my favourites because I love the drama of it, the model is another very beautiful one and I love the dress which she is wearing and how the bird cage represents being trapped which is an important aspect of this book. The quote chosen for the cover is very captivating and made me want to dive into this book headfirst. Even the font used seems to suit the whole theme of the book very well and the colour scheme is very dark and sinister looking with the use of the dark indigo violet.

4. The Selection by Kiera Cass

The cover of this book really inspired me to start drawing again, the dress used on the cover is magnificent and I love the mirrored effect all over the cover. The crown over the font shows the importance of royalty in this book and gives an insight into what happens. The fact that the model is hiding her face really means a lot once you have read the book because the main character doesn't want to stick out. I also love the use of pink and blue as I think they really compliment each other.

5. Kiss Me, I'm Irish by Roxanne St Claire, Jill Shalvis and Maureen Child

This cover really speaks for itself and i'm sure you understand why I chose it. The man on the cover has a very nice body and the lipstick marks made me think that this book was going to be full of romance, something that i'm always attracted to. I really can't think of much more to say about this cover apart from the fact that it's beautiful.

6. Matched by Ally Condie

This cover is a really pretty one, as you can probably tell I am obsessed with dresses and fashion on book covers. This dress is another beautiful one and I love the green accent used in this cover, the gradient effect is something very classy looking and really matched the pop of green. The bubble which the girl is in is important as if you look at this book she is trapped inside the bubble whereas with the next one she is breaking out of the bubble and in the last book she is standing out of the bubble which is broken, this symbolises the way the main character is breaking out of society.

7. Grave Doubts and Heaven Sent by Meg Cabot

The cover of this book really appeals to me because I really like the colour. The matte black cover with shiny black swirls is really pretty and the font used is such a beautiful one. The colour used is mainly black but with the pop of purple really adds to the appeal of the book itself. The model on this one is very pretty with her black lined eyes and the fact that you could only see half of her face gives the book an air of mystery.

8. The Host by Stephenie Meyer

This book cover again makes me think of mystery, the fact that we can only see the eye of the model really makes you wonder what the whole book could be about and this was the main thing which drew me into this book. I've not actually read it yet but i'm really looking forward to getting into it in the next few months.

9. Divergent by Veronica Roth

I love anything holographic so when I saw this book I fell in love, the holographic effect is beautiful and I love the fact that the symbol of one of the factions is on the front. The book cover definitely made me pick it up but what's inside is just as good.

10. A Storm of Swords Part 2 Blood and Gold by George R. R. Martin

I love the colour of this book and it's definitely my favourite in the series in terms of content too, it's a simple cover but it's a favourite of mine. I really want to read this one again.

I'm hoping to at least try and get this new series type thing up and running and since I don't have college on Wednesdays this is the perfect way to start up something new and exciting but on a day that I might actually remember to post on.

Anyway on with today's post:

1. What are you currently reading?

Right now I am reading Guardians by Lola StVil which was a book that I found on amazon for kindle that was free, I wasn't expecting much from this book but it's not something i've read before and the whole Angels thing has always really intrigued me so i'm glad I picked it up/downloaded it.

2. What have you recently finished?

The last book I finished was A Winter Flame by Milly Johnson which I adored and it forced me into thinking about writing my own book and even though they aren't very similar I loved the whole book and couldn't put it down. It's definitely a favourite of the year so far.

3. What do you think you will read next?

I'm hoping t make a start on The Host by Stephenie Meyer first simply because I wanted to read some more of her work because I loved Twilight so much before the films came out.

Soooo.....

Hey everyone,

So I kinda sorta' started writing last night and I think I might have a bit of a book idea type thing...

I've never been good at English. In fact I despised it but since I started reading more and more I had a thought about writing myself and my friend Angela really got me thinking that maybe the idea is a good one and I know that as soon as she reads this she will want to read what i've got so far and believe me I need her help. I struggle with naming characters and coming up with a setting and stuff and to be honest I don't even have a solid idea of where this is going but watch this space and you never know what might happen...

January Wrap Up 2013

Hey everyone, 

Happy new year, can't believe it's the end of January already (even though i'm starting typing this early so actually it's only the 2nd) Anyway here are my new posts for the end of the month outlining exactly what I read during the month and what I hope to read next month. Update: it's now the 26th and this month has been the longest ever, i'm not a fan of January anyway but this one seems incredibly long.

1. A Feast for Crows by George R. R. Martin 

In the month of January I managed to read my way from page 299 to the end of this book. This one was a bit of a struggle to be perfectly honest, I think I was spoiled with A Storm of Swords Part 1 and 2 being particularly easy and interesting however this one has reminded me that there is also the bits that take a little more work. I am hoping that this is just because nothing of substance is actually happening right now and that the next book will pick up like ASOS did, in between amazing books with tons of action George R R Martin seems to do a more muted one with not so much action to fill us in on the more mundane lives of minor characters. This book definitely picked up nearer the end and it wasn't so much of a struggle. Nevertheless the series is still the best i've ever read and I can't wait to read the next book.

2. Not My Wolf by Eden Cole

This book is a really small one and was most definitely not what I was expecting but I thoroughly enjoyed it, it's definitely only for an adult audience but nevertheless it is a good little book. With only 6 chapters I managed to read this in the space of a couple of hours, after expecting something relating to werewolves I was surprised by what it was actually about. I got this book free on amazon for the kindle app on my iphone but I also found it online for free as a pdf file. Just to warn anyone under the age of 18 that this book is an adult book and does contain sexual scenes and be sure to read the synopsis before diving into this one.

3. Dead in the Family by Charlaine Harris

I've been reading this book over the past few weeks simply because this series is my favourite and I still adore the whole route this series is taking. I have 2 more books from the series to get stuck into and I have already made a start on Dead Reckoning which has by far my favourite cover of all of the books that I have (mainly because Alcide is on it) This book was an interesting one and I actually leared a little bit of history while reading it, I love the way Charlaine Harris brings in people that have died in the past and makes them vampires. I've never been a history fan and so in this book when one of the members of the last Russian Royal Family popped up I had to do a little research on whether or not he was a real person which it turns out he was which is exciting and brings a little something extra to the story.

4. What He Wants by Eden Cole

Just want to put a little disclaimer out there but this one is another one to be aware of the synopsis before ready as it's a little risky. This was another really short one but nevertheless it had good writing skill and a lot of dirty bits but none the less it was a good short story.

5. Vengeance by Michelle Madow

This was an extremely short book, I was expecting it to be about the same length as the first book in the series but it was only 50 pages long which was disappointing initially but after reading it even though it had very little content it had a good little story to it and it definitely fills the gap between the first book and the next in the series. I liked this little short story but i'm hoping for better things from the next book in the series.

6. A Winter Flame by Milly Johnson

As you all know i'm a huge fan of Milly Johnson after reading White Wedding last year and then going on to read a Summer Fling, her work really appeals to me in a chick-lit girly sort of way and this book is going extremely well so far, I managed to finish this book quite quickly and it had a really nice storyline and i really want to read more books by Milly Johnson. Something which interests me about Milly Johnsons work is that she incorporates characters from other stories, With White Wedding the store owner is named Freya and we meet her a few times, then in A Summer Fling she pops up again, while in White Wedding again we meet Violet who owns an ice cream parlor and has popped up in A Winter Flame, I love these little touches and i'm sure I will encounter other characters as I read more and more of her books.
