June Wrap Up 2013...

June Wrap Up

Hey everyone, So I can't believe it's the end of June already. It seems like just yesterday that I posted the May wrap up...Well actually it feels like 2 minutes ago, maybe because it was. I'm writing this in advance because I am really unsure as to whether i'll get to update this much towards the end of the month because of work but anyway here you go.

The first thing that I read this month was Perfect Match by Jodi Picoult

This book was an intriguing one, the issues raised in this book were very poignant in todays society and it's definitely something unlike anything else i've ever read. I have done a full review of this book that I posted earlier on in the month, you can find that review here: http://themagicalworldofleg.blogspot.co.uk/2013/06/perfect-match-by-jodi-picoult-review.html

The second thing that I read this month was The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight by Jennifer E Smith

This book was a really short on that I managed to read in a few short days, the idea was really cute and romantic and I absolutely loved the little story. It is definitely something that i'd read again and again and I hope to pick this one up again in the near future. The review for this one can be found here: http://themagicalworldofleg.blogspot.co.uk/2013/06/the-statistical-probability-of-love-at.html

The next book that I read this month was Awake at Dawn by C. C. Hunter

This book is the sequel to Born at Midnight and carried on the story right where the last one left off, I read this pretty quickly and it was a really good continuation with just enough to keep me interested in the series as a whole, I am currently reading through the next book in the series and hopefully i'll get that finished soon.

Another book that I read was Going La La by Alexandra Potter

I'd been attempting to read this book for two years and I finally got around to it and i'm really glad I did. I stumbled upon Alexandra Potter when my step dad gave me one of her books when he spotted it in a book shop and I adored it so I just had to get another one of her books to see if I liked it as much as the first one which I did. My review of this one is here: http://themagicalworldofleg.blogspot.co.uk/2013/06/going-la-la-by-alexandra-potter-review.html

This month was definitely a good one in terms of reading because I also finished Me and Mr Darcy by Alexandra Potter

This book was one that I read pretty quickly, I love this type of story and at the minute i'm really enjoying Alexandra Potter's work. This was another good one but it wasn't as good as Going La La, I didn't enjoy the characters as much and the story confused me a little but all in all it was a good little book.

Anyway that's all for this month, hopefully i'll get to read some more next month and finally find myself a job so that I can pay for my book obsession...

See you all next month,

Leigh xoxo

Vacation/Holiday Book Tag

Vacation/Holiday Book Tag

1. Your destination/setting.: where do you want to go? Why?

The world in which The Selection by Kiera Cass appeals to me because I love the luxurious way the prince and his family live and I would love to experience that for myself.

2. Constant Companion: the literary character you'd want to take along with you. Why? This character doesn't have to be from the book your setting is from, but they can be.

I would like to meet America, she seems like a really nice person who knows what she wants and I feel like I would get on well with her.

3. Disgruntled Copilot: The one character you WOULDN'T want to be stuck sitting next to on the plane. Why?

Joffrey Baratheon. Need I say more. He is arrogant, whiney and just plain evil and if I ever had the misfortune to meet him I would probably have to kill him.

4. Tour Guide: one person from your chosen setting that you'd want to show you around

Prince Maxon, he is beautiful and he seems to be the whole package plus it is his house so he knows it better than anybody else there.

5. Site to see: the one place you'd want to see first. Why?

I'd love to see the library in the castle that Maxon shows America because it sounds absolutely amazing.

6. Something to avoid: an aspect from the world or setting you would prefer not to be a part of.

When the rebels storm the castle seems like it would be terrifying so I really wouldn't want to have to experience that.

7. Souvenir: one thing from your chosen destination that you'd want to take with you.

I'd like to take Maxon home with me, he seems like the perfect guy and I really hope that he and America end up together in the end.

8. One time visit or go to vacation spot? Why?

Go to vacation spot because if i'm married to Maxon i'll be living there full time.

Going La La by Alexandra Potter Review

Going La La Review

Hey everyone, i'm back with another review for you all.

This is a book that has been on my self for a while and i've just not gotten around to it but because it was sunny today I decided to give it a go.

This is another light-hearted romance which as you know i'm a sucker for, this book was a really good read. The characters were nice and the plot was fast paced and kept me reading late at night.

The synopsis reads:

Frankie's life is falling apart. In less than a week she's gone from having everything - a great job, lovely flat and gorgeous Hugh - to having nothing at all.

Devastated, dumped and on the dole, she packs her bags and flies to Los Angeles to stay with an old friend. Her goal? To sort out her life and get over Hugh. She does not, repeat not, go to LA to fall head over heels for an American photographer called Reilly and to run away to Las Vegas.
But what happens when Hugh wants her back? Who will she choose? And is it really true that whatever happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas?

Alexandra Potter's deliciously funny romantic comedy is for every girl who has ever dreamt of running away to Hollywood... or just wished she could reach for the stars.

PLOT:

The story of this novel is such a cute little romance where the main character loses everything, her house, her boyfriend and her job all in the one week. She then decides to jet off to LA to see her longest best friend and meets another man who takes her mind off of her ex. This seems to be the perfect escape for her and a way of starting a new life but can it last?

CHARACTERS:

Frankie - Frankie is a nice character, she is easy to relate to and her emotions are extremely well portrayed throughout the book. It's easy to see how much Frankie really loved Hugh and how difficult it is for her to get over him other the course of the novel. She really seems to come into her own when she is in LA and really becomes this new and improved person with a whole new lease of life. Overall she is a really strong female character and I really liked her as a character.

Hugh - This guy is ridiculous, he is insensitive and I just really disliked his character, he seems to me to be very work oriented and doesn't really think about the feelings of others and this is just a few of the reasons why he is my least favourite character of the book.

Reilly - This guy seems to be a little arrogant when we first meet him and it really wasn't off to the best start but he really grew on me through the whole thing and I definitely liked him more than Hugh.

All in all even though it took me about a year to read this book it was definitely worth the wait and it is something that i'd probably pick up again in the future.

I've Been Naughty...Book Haul

Book Haul

Hey everyone, so I haven't actually been very naughty because I only bought 3 books, Right now i'm on a book buying ban until I get my new job and start earning money. So when I went into Tesco the other day and saw books that were 3 for £5 I just couldn't resist.

The first book I got was Be Careful What You Wish For by Alexandra Potter

I've been wanting this book for a while and when I spotted it in Tesco I just had to have it, I've read the synopsis and the only thing putting me off was the fact that I was trying to read Going La La by Alexandra Potter and I was seriously struggling. I spent over a year trying and trying to read this book until about a week ago when it was nice and sunny outside and I gave it one more go and I couldn't put it down. It was for this reason only that I picked this one up and i'm hoping it's as good as the last one I read.

The second book that I picked up was Me and Mr Darcy by Alexandra Potter

While reading Going La La I skipped to the back to see if any other books by Alexandra Potter were mentioned and this was one of them, I wasn't too sure about whether to buy it or not but again when I saw it in the 3 for £5 section I had to pick it up.

Of course because it was 3 for £5 I had to buy one more book which was Chocolate Shoes and Wedding Blues by Trisha Ashley

This book really intrigued me with a name with Chocolate, Shoes and Weddings it really appeals to me  and I can't wait to have a good read of it because I really think it will be a good little read.

Thanks for reading

The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight by Jennifer E Smith Review...

The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight Review

Hey everyone,

So i'm here with another book review for you all. I managed to read this book in one day and just loved it so much that I wanted to share it with you all.

The blurb of this book says:

Who would have guessed that 4 minutes could change everything? Imagine if she hadn't forgotten the book. Or there hadn't been traffic on the expressway. Or if she hadn't fumbled the coins for the toll. What if she'd run just that little bit faster and caught the flight she was supposed to be on. Would it have been something else - the weather over the Atlantic or a fault with the plane? Hadley isn't sure if she believes in destiny or fate but, on what is potentially the worst day of each of their lives, it's the quirks of timing and chance events that mean Hadley meets Oliver. Set over a 24-hour-period, Hadley and Oliver's story will make you believe that true love finds you when you are least expecting it.

This book was such a sweet and cute romance and is definitely something quick that sucks you in, I honestly couldn't put this book down. The characters and the story is just heart warming and i'm definitely going to check out more from this author.

PLOT

In terms of plot, this book is set over 24 hours while Hadley is on a flight from New York to London, it states at the beginning of each chapter the time both in New York and in London which I found to be a really nice touch which added to the fact that they were in a hurry. The fact that Hadley misses her flight and ends up on a later one much less the chance of them having seats beside each other is so romantic. This story is like a fairy tale and is definitely something that appeals to me, with it's gooey romance and story about family it's something that almost anyone would enjoy.

CHARACTERS

Hadley - Hadley is a typical 17 year old, she lives with her mum and they don't get along very well, she is clumsy and just a typical teenager. I really liked her character, she seemed to me to be easy to relate to and with books like this I find it easy to put myself in her shoes. She seems like she worries a lot which is something else that I can relate to.

Oliver - Oliver is one of my favourite male characters ever, he is tall and handsome but he is also a gentleman which is such a nice trait to have. He is caring and is only worried about Hadley and the love that is forming between them. They make such a cute couple in my mind and I love them together.

All in all this book was a very short, quick read that I read in a day. I honestly couldn't put this book down and i'd really recommend it to anyone who likes anything gooey and romantic. Definitely a good summer read for sure.

Thanks for reading

Leigh xoxo

Perfect Match by Jodi Picoult Review

Perfect Match Review

Hey everyone, so i'm here with another review for you all,

This book is simply amazing, the serious issue which is raised is written about very sensitively and it definitely shows a deeper message about the unconditional love of a mother

The back of the book reads:

As an assistant district attorney, Nina Frost prosecutes the sort of crimes that tear families apart. But, when Nina and her husband discover that their five-year-old son Nathaniel has been sexually abused, it is her own family that is devastated.
The world Nina inhabits now seems different from the one she lived in yesterday: the lines between family and professional life are erased, and answers to questions she thought she knew are no longer easy to find.
Overcome by anger and desperate for vengeance, Nina ignites a battle that may cause her to lose the very thing she is fighting for.

PLOT

In terms of plot the story to this book is definitely not like anything that I have read before, this true to life tale is devastating and shows the consequences not only on a sexually abused child but also on the families and the discovery to find who did it as well as what lengths a mother will go to to get justice for her son. The story really drew me in and I managed to read this book in a number of days and the twists and turns really kept me on the edge of my seat. This book has given me a good taste for Jodi Picoult's writing style and I will definitely pick up another one of her books in the future to see if it can live up to this one.

CHARACTERS

Nina: Nina is a typical mother, she works too hard and she loves her son more than anything in the world. She wants revenge for what happened to her son and will go to any lengths to get it.

Nathaniel: I never expected to read a book which had perspectives from a 5 year old child that would actually be written like the way a 5 year old child thinks but this is written extremely well, I found myself in tears through this book upon discovering what this poor little innocent child has been through.

Caleb: Caleb kind of annoyed me at times, he just didn't have much personality and I really didn't like reading about him. He seemed uncaring at times and wasn't truly thinking about his son or wife and what they are feeling.

Patrick: I adore Patrick, I really ship him and Nina together. He clearly loves her, a lot more than her husband does and I just really think they would make a cute couple. I liked his character and how he would do anything for Nina because he loves her.

All in all this book was a very interesting one and is definitely something that I recommend,

Leigh xoxo

Immediate TBR List - June 2013

Top 5 - I Need To Read Right Now

Hey everyone,

So this is something that I had an idea about last night, the idea of posting what i'm really wanting to read so that you can all compare it to what I actually read could be very interesting because 9 times out of 10 I don't read what I say i'm going to read.

Anyway here is the list of the 5 books on my immediate TBR list.

1. Awake at Dawn by C. C. Hunter.

As you will all see I managed to finish Born at Midnight this month so this is one of the books that i'm desperate to read, the first book really drew me in and is definitely something that I am interested in. I loved the way the story started and I really want to continue the series.

2. This Is What Happy Looks Like by Jennifer E. Smith

Again I chose this one as something that I really want to read simply because I just finished another one of Jennifer E Smith's books and really enjoyed it, so i'm hoping to enjoy this book just as much as I enjoyed the first book that I read that was by her.

3. What I Did On My Holidays by Chrissie Mamby

This book looks like it will be a really nice summer read and so is something that i've been saving for a while now, the synopsis really drew me in and I think that this will be a comical little book that i'm really looking forward to reading.

4. A Dance With Dragons Part 2 by George R. R. Martin

Of course now that I have finished part 1 it's only fitting that I make a start on part 2 of this bad boy, the only thing is the time, it takes so long to read and get into that i'm not sure whether it's something that I feel like tackling right this minute what with it being summer and all, maybe this book will make an appearance later on in the year.

5. My Life Next Door by Huntley Fitzpatrick

This book was actually recommended to me by Amazon so thanks Amazon. It came up in the books you might like section the other day and after having a quick read at the back it really drew me in so this is definitely something that I want to read ASAP, it seemed to me to have a whole Romeo and Juliet feel which is something that I really like in a book and so i'm looking forward to giving this one a go.

Anyway that's my top 5 picks for reading in the near future,

Speak to you all soon

May Wrap Up 2013...

May Wrap Up

Hey everyone, so it's that time of the month again so it's time for my monthly wrap up.

This month I read a few books and there was also a read-a-thon on for a whole week, unfortunately I had an exam on the Tuesday but I did read as much as possible during the week.

The first book that I read was Can You Keep A Secret? by Sophie Kinsella

This was such a good little book, the storyline was interesting and the characters were really likable. The story basically revolves around the main character Emma and the fact that she reveals all of her inner-most secrets to a stranger on a plane not realising that he actually owns the company that she works for. This is a nice little romantic/funny book and is something that really appeals to me because it reminds me of my own book in many ways. I will definitely pick this one up again in the future because I thoroughly enjoyed it. You can check out my review of this book here: http://themagicalworldofleg.blogspot.co.uk/2013/05/can-you-keep-secret-by-sophie-kinsella.html

The second book that I read was Dead Reckoning by Charlaine Harris.

As you all know i'm absolutely in love with this series and this book was definitely one of the better ones in the series so far, I loved the way that the plot developed through the course of this book and although i'm nearing the end of this series i'm still enjoying it just as much as the first book. I wont reveal anything about the plot on here because I know not all of you will have read this but I hope that you all at least give this series a go because I thought it was particularly well written.

The third book that I read in May was The Prince by Keira Cass

This little short story/novella was something that I discovered the other day and I read it in about half an hour, it only has about 6 chapters but really shows The Selection from the point of view of someone else. The plot is short and sweet and it is definitely something that i'd recommend to people who are reading the trilogy just to give them that little something extra to add to the already brilliant trilogy.

The fourth book that I read this month was Deadlocked by Charlaine Harris

This book was a really good one, it didn't take me long at all to read and really got me excited for the final book in the series, i'm not looking forward to this series ending because i've loved it so much but at least then i'll get to read it all over again. This book was really good and definitely one of the better ones in the series.

The fifth book that I read in May was A Dance With Dragons Part 1 by George R R Martin

I finally finished this book, it took a while and it was a little long and painful but definitely worth it in the end, not yet ready to make a start on part 2 but perhaps when I start my new job and have an hour long train journey every day.

And finally the one that I left out Born At Midnight by C. C. Hunter

This was a nice little read, the storyline was really good and it was definitely something that appeals to me. It reminded me a little bit of the House of Night series but only a little. The idea that all of the supernaturals go to a special camp was interesting and I can't wait to read another few books in the series.

Anyway that's all this month

Speak to you all soon

Leigh xoxo
